In this episode Chris and Courtney talk with Thao Phan about her research on AI, Robotics and algorithmic cultures. Specifically, discussing her work on  technologies like Amazon's Echo and Apple's Siri and how they continue histories of racialised, gendered and classed labour in the domestic sphere. They also discuss the ethics of AI and how much of the ethics research is funded by the companies producing the ethical questions.

Thao is a Research Fellow at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation at Deakin University. She is a feminist STS researcher who analyses the technologization of gender and race in algorithmic culture. She is also the Co-founder and Convenor of the Australasian STS grad network (or AusSTS) and the program coordinator for the Deakin Science and Society Network.
